I then apoligize. I realize the forum is about longrifles, but im gonna ask you fellas in shaping a burned file knife what type of files do you use for   [1] roughing,[2] medium work and [3] finish filing. Thanks in advance.

You would be better served and get more responces by reposting this querry on the acoutrements page. If it were my forged file, knife project I would use a belt grinder rather than destroying my files for shaping up the project. BJH

  You can also do well on a 6 x 48 belt sander. You can use 36 grit to clean off the scale and get it down pretty close, then switch to 100 grit. After that, it depends on how well finished you want it to be. If you do a good job of annealing after the forging, you can file it, but it takes a while. After heat treat, you can forget filing. It will be too hard.
