Ok I think the hooked breech is suposed to be color case hardened. SO.....  What barrel finish is proper on a late 18th century fowling piece.  I really don't want to leave it in the white so...Rust Blue, brown?  Lock finish?  Everything I see appears to be left in the white. ???

Any info would be great.

English or American??   
What makes you say the (standing?) breech is supposed to be color case hardened???  Or did you just meen the hook on the plug??

It is a personal choice but for me it would be brown which is more traditional including the furniture

most everything from that time period I have seen is in the white.

But when an original gun gets to be a few years old, it would be fairly brown, unless maintained by the gamekeeper.
