I have been following this post and it's generated a desire to make a wheel lock.I've been searching and viewing several antique auction sites looking at numerous style wheel-locks. Could someone comment on the safety lever just to the left of the wheel as to how it works (what happens when the ball lever is depressed?) also when you see locks with this spring and lever you usually see another external part just to it's left...what is this? I cannot find a picture or diagram that shows how this safety works.

hi what i would like to know is where i can buy that type of wallnut in this country the Wallnut is a dark brown in poland its liter all most a tan if anyone knows where i can pick some up please let me know

Was this feature used on the more expensive locks or just an improvement that occured in the development cycle. You usually don't see it on the military guns, usually on the fancier models.

There's a E-bay seller out on the west coast that might be able to help you. He sells project wood cut from just about every tree imagineable. I'll see if I can find him and if he has a running auction I'll post the link here to the auction so you can try to contact him yourself.

Question,

With the wheel inside the pan, couldn't loose powder fall into the mechanism causing possible lock blowoff? I've never seen a wheellock in person only in pictures. HE

Rich the wheel fits tight through the pan and doesn't allow powder to slip through I use 3ffg. I can tell you the lock time is real fast.
