tansel powder horns

Can anyone educate me on the origins of Tansel horns?  I find these intriguing but am absolutely clueless as to anything about them, construction wise to timeframes they existed in.

As far as the origins I am not sure.  They were a family of horn workers in the early federal period.  This is why you see the patriotic themes on them.  I have made several and they are a lot of fun.  Muzzleblast did an article on the history some time back.  I will see if I can find it.
