Small pocket/pistol horn finished
« on: July 14, 2011, 01:51:09 AM »
Hey All,
Used my time while deployed to finish up a small pre-Revolutionary War pocket/pistol horn.  It has an unfished, turned horn spout.  The top and bottom are polished black bison horn with small brass tacks.  On one side, it has a death head with the inscription "Liberty or Death" bordered by a geometric pattern.  The other side has a rising sun with "Appeal to Heaven 1775."  The horn was dyed using Golden Yellow & Tangerine Rit dye and then a wash of Golden Yellow & Dark Brown.

Very neatly made horn/'flask, Carl.  It's a great accoutrement for a pistol, or hunting bag.

Not sure why the pics are so distorted-will have to repost and see if that helps.  Sorry,
Carl

That's really nice Carl. The scrim came out very well and sets the horn off nicely.

Arrggghhh and I don't see my name on this one either.  Carl your engraving looks great and love the idea of marrying your materials.  Great job!!!

Really nice work all around. Are there wooden plugs that the Buffalo horn is attached to and is it a screw tip?
Great horn.

Tim,
The buffalo horn is fixed to the top and bottom with brass tacks.  The spout is applied.  Thanks!

Carl, that's an excellent horn and great idea. Would make a nice rifle primer also.
