I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone has to say. I really appreciated all the support I got from this site. I have really enjoyed researching this rifle over the last month. I got my hands on as many books as I could....Kaufmann, Kindig, Dillin, Merril.....and I did as much studying as I could on the internet. I'm still studying. I am no expert but now things are starting to make sense. I appreciate Eric K. and Ron L. pointing me to the individual that I believe is the maker of this rifle....Jacob Georg. While there is no signature that I can see...it appears to me that his name is all over this rifle. I believe that the patchbox engraving is as good a signature as I can hope to get. The engraving on this rifle certainly must be from the same maker as rifles that I have seen attributed to Jacob Georg. I will admit that my references are still few and I would be interested to see more of Stophil Longs work also. Here is the link to the website of an engraved patchbox on a Georg rifle that I believe must be the same maker.

I don't want to be too commercial here, so I'm sending this to Jeremy only.

Try to pick up my book, BERKS COUNTY LONG RIFLES & GUN MAKERS, published in 2009 as a part of the long rifle exhibit in Reading in 2009. I say that because I address the question of that particular design of engraving on the patchbox as used by at least 3-4 gunsmiths in the Upper Berks county area.  Both Jacob George , and Carl George, along with Stophel Long and Gideon Angstadt (all in the book) used that curly thang in the middle and some used the same  border engraving. In the book you will see at least two rifles using that engraving and on my Gideon Angstadt you will see the 4 point star in circle design on the cheekside, along with the patchbox engraving. But given all the other features of your gun it is a tough call...could be by anyone of those gunsmiths.

Nord....I just got back into town....sorry for the delayed response....I am disappointed that the members of the ALR Committee had no comment on my rifle....however...as previously stated....I am greatful to the members of the forum for giving me  a great deal of support...thanks again to all....Jeremy

PS. Eastwind....thanks for the reference to your book  Berks County Long Rifles & Gun Makers sounds like one I would like to get my hands on.

I certainly don't speak for the committee, but perhaps none of them replied because there was no further information to be gleened from the pictures, than you already know, or suspect.
I know a plain rifle like this one is most difficult to solidly attribute to a maker, so go with Eric K and Ron L information, as both of them know of what they speak.
