A Simple Horn
« on: August 03, 2011, 09:27:04 PM »
A few weeks ago B. Barker posted some pics of  New Old Stuff, a paneled horn with Brass tacks was one of them. I liked the simple design. I think this is the kind of horn that could have been made at home with simple tools. The tacks could have been added anytime in it's life span.
It has 7 panels, it about 11 ½” around the outside curve. The butt was left to its natural shape, the pine plug is about 2 ¼”. The horn itself is very opaque. The tack heads are a little high for my liking.

Tim, I never met a paneled horn I did not like, and this one is no exception.  Nice job!  Sometimes, less is more.
Between seeing  Scott Morrison's banded horn at Dixon's for a second time and this horn I may learn to like big brass tacks to hold on a horn base plug.  Just maybe. ;D

I think the tacks tend to draw and hold the eye. On the other hand, maybe that's all he had at the time, and you have to work with what you have.

I like it Tim. I'm afraid I have to agree with Dave, I like paneled horns.
