I had 1 person request a photo tutorial on forging a trigger guard.
This really is not a good tutorial though.
I took pictures along the way, but I probably did not take enough.
so I will just post what I have so far.
I should also mention that this is just 1 way to do a trigger guard. This one is a 3 piece.
This picture is of what you get when you hammer the bow out. The steel is bent at 90 degrees. the next step is to fold the bow up.

This picture shows the bow being formed.

This on shows the rear extension rough forged.

This picture is for scale more than anything.

 I last picture or two.

This is my granddad after I gave him his rifle a couple of weeks ago. It was a surprise for him. The funny thing was right after I took this picture two deer ran up over the hill on the right side of him. Came up on top and looked around and ran back over the hill. Hope he gets one this year.

The squirrels in woods are calling me. I just need to get this rifle done. before season.

Very interesting!! Nice triggergard. Could you post some close up  side view pictures and pictures that show how the parts are attached?

Best regards

Marc,
Thanks for the pictures.  It looks like it is going very well.  It's fascinating to see a talented guy make something like a trigger guard appear out of a piece of rough steel.  More pics as you continue?
Your Granddad looks like a happy man.  He should be with a rifle like that one.
Are you going to be at the class in Lodi next week?

That was a very timely and informative tutorial, since I need to forge a guard for myself.

I do appreciate your taking the time to post photos of the process.

Thanks,
J.D.

Sorry I was unable to finish yesterday.
I ran out of time, and forgot my camera at work.
My home computer is working tonight, so I am going to try to finish.
The pictures I am showing are of the guard put together, but I still did not finish filing. I brazed the parts together with silver. I was having trouble with my forge that day, so I used a torch and silver instead of the forge and copper.
Ask away with any questions.
