Included are some pictures of a modern flintlock I got from the same widow lady I got the fowler from. Anything you might be able to share about it would be appreciated. - jerry

No idea. I couldn't tell you either way if it is backwards, upside down, or otherwise.

Seems like the locks were made in Italy--maybe by Pedersoli.

I can't remember all the history, but there were 3 generations of Hatfield rifles.  The Hatfield Works were located in Missouri, maybe St. Louis.  The 1st generation was the best.  They went bust.  Another guy conned the state into giving him a huge grant to get the place refurbed and I think he went bankrupt.
The guns are worth what many think they are and are generally overpriced on auctions and such.  They are just an average production working gun.

I used to know all that stuff the my brain's hard drive is corrupted these days.

The 'Hatfield Rifle Works'  was located on Frederick st. in Saint Joseph ,Mo. Ted Hatfield was the owner and his brother Tim is still in the same location with an antique store. The first generation rifles were very pretty but the locks were horrible.Ted would resurface them after a while using some inert nuclear material as I remember. Ted later produced a sleek little upland dbl. barrel cart. gun as well. I believe Ted is an editor with a magazine now [maybe Sports Afield ect.?] I had an early 13/16 barrel one of about ser.# 160 something and later a 15/16 barrel one as well.

I know the guy who told me he designed the rifle and used to put them together. See him every Sunday. Yes
he told me the locks and other stuff came from Italy. He is also a maker of fine rifles.   R Miller.

Seems like my first one was 'signed' by a guy named...Denny? After the rifles had gradually risen from about $400.00 to $700.00 they all the sudden were back down to around $400.00 again. I happened to be in the rifle works one day and no one was around.I noticed a crate sitting on the floor marked ...Italy... naturally I looked inside and there were barrels and it seems like other metal parts. That explained the sudden price drop.

While again, I don't know anything about these, I have not been able to find a serial number or a where it was made. The only other mark i can find is on the right side under the lock, under the word Hatfield. It says WARRANTED. I'm giving it a whirl on an auction site to see what I can get for the lady. Thanks for all of the help.
