A couple of Folk Art style hunting pouches
« on: August 14, 2011, 07:54:13 PM »
Back in March at the Honourable Company Horners' annual meeting I was intrigued by an original hunting pouch that Frank Willis had in his possession.  It was neither too large or too small for use, but the overall design became an inspiration and I felt it would be a fun project going forward.   Here's a picture of the orginal, probably 19th century and thank you Frank for sharing this with us all and giving me help and advice.

Unfortunately, I neglected to make measurements in March and had to go forward with my 'guess-ti-mates'.  These are approximately 7 inches tall and about 7 inches at the widest part and is a single bag pouch, no inside pockets.
Not to be content with one pouch I made several, but all with slightly different flaps and/or straps.  Below are my interpretations and hopefully captured the flavor of a couple folk art style pouches.  The pouch with the 'Distlefink' tooled flap has a custom woven strap in an attempt to 'copy' the orginal and was accomplished by The Weaving Welshman, Lynn Blevins.  Thanks to you Larry for your help.

Those are really nice Gary. Congratulations on a job well done. I must admit though, that I like the simple appearance on the original without apparent tooling.
I'm dieing to see them with horns and accoutrements added.

I like the second one with the scalloped effect.  Nice bag.

Gary; Nice job on the two (2) bags you fashioned from memory. The tooling on the new number one bag flap look very comparable to the original  bag flap. Thanks for sharing. I also like the distilfink (sp) on the first bag. Jim & Alyce.
