Hacksaw and file for me too, but in my case, that is a plus. Mistakes made one file stroke at a time, are more easily detected, and corrected ! ;D

I have a video from England of a guy carving a set of Rigby style patent breechplugs and a tang using die sinker chisels.  He did use a lathe to turn down and thread the plugs but carved and filed the snails and Rigby flats on them.  You have to wonder how these were made before machine tools became available and I suspect this is how.  He started with two pieces of 2" round stock.

JvR- no haven't done it myself, but I've seen it done - fellow over on nitroexpress uses this system for making ribs for his DR's - to the point of selling ribs to other builders. Being able to slice 26 to 28" lengths with little waste is impressive - longitudinally working shaper?

Daryl the pipe was a little to small in diameter, had to flatten it a little.
On top is cutoff from top rib and at the bottom the under rib.
Thank you Runar.....you have yourself a very very nice project going ! My congrats on your pistol.

Just in case you don't know what a die sinkers chisel is, (I didn't!):

Quote
DIE SINKER’S CHISEL – An engraving chisel used by steel die engravers. Much longer than the usual arms or jewelry engraver’s chisel, it usually measures about 6 to 7 ½ inches. Some arms engravers in past times preferred to use diesinker’s chisels for large scrollwork. Diesinker’s chisels are sold in size and shape from # 1 to # 12.

Are you going to run into problems with your ramrod seating all the way to the breech?  The ones I have seen on double guns have the underlug affixed to a hidden thimble which is partially inlet into the stock.

Very sharp eyes ! T*O*F !

Yes I have missed that also,not building from a plan,just a picture.
But I have spotted it while fitting the stock wood, just moments before drilling the holes for the barrel wedge.

Sharp eyes indeed !
