Mitch, I agree on the lock. It's got a colonial look to it, very believable on this gun, looks like an early Germanic import lock. I also like the geometry of the stock, the fullness of the butt, countered by the slimness of the forestock. Real nice job on an early gun, looks right as rain.

I'm inspired to make some of those buttpieces in that manner.

Really elegant piece.  Cutting that volute so smoothly is no mean feat.  I've been becoming a big fan of pumice and rottenstone to burnish out surfaces and get a fill without adding pigment to the wood.

Rich, Coming in late here ( been off of the grid for a week ). Nicely done and way to stick with it. That hand made buttplate makes it unique and nice job with the inlet.  The lock placement shows your skill as a builder. Nice and low, very little wood under the lockplate.
