28 bore , 46 in barrel smoothbore
« on: August 26, 2011, 02:54:27 AM »
Well, I now have a Chambers Penn.Fowler  kit in 28 bore , with cherry stock coming.
I think it will handle well, and I'm hoping that the 46in barrel will help get the most out of the bore size.
I had a 28,  years ago, and it patterned well beyond what you would expect. Never should have sold it.
Anyone else shooting one of these?

A .28ga, yes...a real favorite...most recent is a 42" Rice barrel and I was surprised at how good of a pattern it throws compared to earlier 32" GM barrels...PRB accuracy is excellent as well

Hmmmm. And I was just beginning to think I had it covered with my flintlocks, and this idea lands on my screen. Thanks--I think.

Even though I sold that 28 bore years ago, I did keep a .527 mold that I used for it. I guess, deep down I must have thought I'd need it again  ;D

Hey Bob,
I'm with you.I'm going this route also. A cherry Fusil,a 42 inch, and a maple colonial 48 inch. The Frenchie will be my pelter and the Colonial,( haven't decided exactly which flavor), strictly a roundball shooter. You're going to love that Chambers set up! Really great part sets. I may just copy that stock profile ,alter it a little for my pull length.
My buddy Chris shoots a 28,a Frenchie and shoots both shot and ball very well thru a forty two inch barrel..What really surprised me was how well it shoots clays.
