« on: August 31, 2011, 04:54:30 AM »
Well I finaly did it .I'M the proud owner of a 54cal GM drop in barrel.
I tryed for a 50cal but DAVID at track of the wolf said they weren't
going to be avalible for some time.SO I got the 54, it's only 15/16
acoss the flats as im stuck with the hawken stock for know.
BUT what a shooter, 2to 3 inchs at 100yds right off the get go
and getting tighter with more shooting.Only about 100 rounds so far,
but I'M GUESSING under 2''s once the lands are a little smoother.
And the people at TRACK OF THE WOLF are exellant to deal with,
and very helpful. Again thankyou for all your helpfull imformation

The GM bbl I got had a pretty sharp-edged crown when it arrived. When I got my GM 50....I found that rubbing the crown with a piece of emery cloth wrapped over my thumb helped resolve some patch-cutting issues I was having.

I have had more than one rifle that "shot in" Often by the time I got the fixed sights adjusted and loads developed.  I had a couple that needed a different combination, usually a thicker patch,  after a seasons shooting.

I
GM drop-in barrels are excellent...sounds like you've got a good one and assuming you'll be deer hunting with it, you won't be disappointed with the .54cal at all.

Until recently selling some off, I had GM's drop-in barrels in .40 / .54 smooth / .58 / .62 smooth.
Now have one T/C Hawken left with a 15/16" x .54cal(.28ga) smoothbore Flint barrel and suspect that last one will stay with me for a while.

Enjoy !
