N.C. Horn With Double Screw Tip
« on: September 03, 2011, 12:54:23 AM »

This one is about 14” around the outside curve. The butt is Cherry colored with AF, the finish is  a combination of oils.  The antler collar and the horn are threaded 5/8-11 the English Walnut tip is threaded ˝-13. The band is pinned with three steel bands. The horn color is from a mixture of stuff. The original was listed as having three bands with two missing,  I decided to forego the ghost bands.
Once again the basic idea for this horn was taken from  Bill Ivey’s North Carolina School of Long Rifles 1765-1865 and Michael Briggs’ Piedmont North Carolina Banded Powder Horns Hunting Bags and Bullet Bags.

That's a really fascinating tip treatment. I may have to try something like that sometime. I think it would have looked really good with the two other bands as well. Very nice job.

Tim; Very nice use of combined materials and color finish. I find the single band appealing, Thanks for sharing the post. Jim
