Uncle Mike's vent liners ?
« on: September 14, 2011, 01:47:58 AM »
A colleage at work asked me today if I knew where he could get a " Uncle Mike's " vent liner. Apparently it has a allen wrench fitting depression where the actual vent is so that it can be removed for cleaning.   ??? He said is dad is a competitive shooter and only uses these.  Been around this forum a long time now but have never heard of such a liner. I was gonna argue the whole need for vent liner removal but left it alone.

Any leads that I could pass on would be appreciated

If you look in most sporting goods stores that have a decent modern muzzleloading assortment, you could probably find them. Many years ago I used them on Thompson Center guns. It was an improvement,as far as removing regularly, over those with a straight type screwdriver slot. However....for sure quick ignition nothing beats the White Lightning liner. Yet they are not intended to be removed easily.

Uncle Mike's was a manufacturer from Oregon a number of years ago. They sold nipples and a bunch of other odds and ends. I never saw one of their vent liners. I'm not sure if their even in business anymore.

If you can't find them anywhere else, drop me a PM--I may still have one or two in my range box.

Uncle Mikes, was part of Michaels Of Oregon.
the whole company including Hoppes was bought
by Leupold scopes and all manufacturing was sent over seas..
put a lot of people out of work
i have a few of those liners if you need 1
only flintlocks remain interesting..

By the description it sounds like the CVA liner, I don't know about the thread sizes though. But if they are the same CVA liners are pretty common.
5x.8 thread, found that.

See page 145 of "Recreating the American Longrifle" by Buchele, Shumway, & Alexander.

It shows installing an allen screw with the hex opening facing out and a hole drilled into the bore.

Comments that it is "A good liner"
