N.C. Horn With Three Bands And Antler Tip
« on: September 16, 2011, 04:26:37 PM »

It is about 14” around the outside curve. The Walnut base is about 2 ˝” it is held in with 4 steel pins underneath the base band, a wire staple for the strap. The tip is Whitetail antler and is held with 4 wooden pegs. The two center bands were heated and pressed on , then  pinned with 3 steel pins each. The base band was heated and pressed/tapped on, no pins. Half its width is on the base.
Again the idea for this horn was taken from Bill Ivey’s North Carolina School of Long Rifles 1765-1865 and Michael Briggs’ Piedmont North Carolina Banded Powder Horns Hunting Bags and Bullet Bags.

Good job Tim. Total package looks great. My eye is attracted to the bands. Thanks for posting. AJ
