Good photos of John Rupp rifles
« on: October 04, 2011, 12:22:16 AM »
I'm looking for GOOD photos of any of John Rupps work.  I've got a few from the KRA's presidents exhibit, and a couple from Allen Martin's site.
Does anyone know of additional photos???

Thanks in advance.

Dane

Smallpatch, I wish I had more but the KRA photo's you have are hard to beat. I believe the only signed John Rupp's are in that presentation. I was inspired enough to build a John Rupp stlyed Lehigh currently currently 90% completed.  Maybe your interest is leading tou down the same path.

Hi Dane, I assume you have looked at the Accouterments books writen by James R. Johnston. If not , there are some in all three and a signed over/under in vol. 3.      Smylee

Don't know about good, but pages 17, 18, and 22 of Kentucky rifles, and pistols 1750-1850, by Jim Johnson has John Rupp pic's.
Not much help, but some more pic's.

Ron Gabel's booklet, "Thoughts on The North Hampton School of Pennsylvania Gunsmithing" has four good pictures of a nice John Rupp rifle including a shot of the tang carving. I got my copy at Dixon's a few years ago but I believe they still had copies when I was there earlier this year. Very informative little book for someone interested in Lehigh rifles.

The only one of these publications I don't have is Jim Johnston's Kentucky Rifles.

The photo quality of the Ron Gabel publication is the big draw back for me.  The KRA so far is the best.

Where can I get Kentucky Rifles?

The Johnston book is available from Track of the Wolf.  However, the book was published in1976, so you may be disappointed with those pictures also. The photos aren't as close and the quality isn't any better, if as good, as the Gabel booklet. It's a good book though, and they are full length pictures of the Rupp rifles.
