Simple Horn
« on: October 06, 2011, 08:32:52 PM »

It is about 10” around the outside curve (OC). The base was left in the natural shape, plug is Pine and held in with 8 Brass tacks, forged nail for the strap. Once again the color is from the leftover batch, the color of the horn helped a lot.

Wow!  I have a small horn rattling around the shop that now has a purpose in life.  Thanks!

I can't speak for Tim, but I got some really nice square shank brass tacks cast from originals here.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page.  They're available all the way from 1/4" to 7/8" and both high and low dome for several.

You got it,  The Trunk shop, nice folks to work with. They are a little pricy but done right.
The Brass nails are nice too and affordable in bulk, the heads are thick Brass
with steel shanks.
  Thanks for the comments.

I was looking at the pics and it looks like the neck, just below the strap stop, looks like it a little fat, just needs a tad more taper, back to the bench with it.

Nice little horn, Tim.  I agree with you in that the neck could stand to be slimmed down a tad.  I like those brass tacks.  I've been using the tacks with the steel shanks, but will probably get some cast ones from the Trunk Shoppe.
