Don Getz No. 76
« on: November 15, 2008, 09:15:53 PM »
I stopped by the Getz Barrel Shop yesterday.  I had the opportunity to see Don Getz's Rifle No. 76, a very nice J.P. Beck in the white.

I also got view some new castings available from the Getz's.  Contact Don for more information.

I actually put this gun together in the "white" for another gun builder, he is going to do the staining and finishing.  I worked on it for about 3 weeks, now and then, whenever I felt like it.  As for the casting shown, they were sent to John
by Jud Brennan and Jack Brooks, and he has some of them for sale there in the shop.  The thumb pieces are being done
by Chris Altland who bought out the Kennedy pistol business.  ............Don

Gee Randy, never thought about that.  Last time I am ever going to show you guys a partially finished gun.  I put the gun together for Ed Dillon, who occassionally has a barn gun for sale at Track.  Ed bought the piece of wood at Dixon's, and it was a super piece.  He was afraid he would screw it up and so he gave it to me to screw up...talk about pressure.  Actually, it turned out pretty nice.  It has one of our "standard light" barrels in 50 cal. on it, a perfect Beck barrel.  Ed is
going to let me display it at the Lewisburg show.  I am also going to borrow back the gun I built for the Friends of the NRA
back in February.  This was a neat barn gun with a wood box and the heel of the comb was shaped like a faceted buttplate, couple of knot holes, etc.    ..Don

There was another posting about the quality of Davis' Golcher lock.  The lock on this Beck is a Davis "Classic" lock, which
seems to work quite well.   It is smaller than a large siler, both in length and width (top to bottom) and seems to work
well for a Beck rifle.........Don

No Don has not quit us. He had some problems with his ISP and could not access the board. Evidently something corrupted his user profile and I could not repair it. Had to delete it and set him back up as a new user. His old posts are now showing up as a "guest" even though I have him back in as a member. Don called me yesterday and told me he has a new ISP and hopefully he is now able to make posts. I am going to try to get him connected back with his previous posts but am not sure I will be able to.

Yes, there are some artists left in this country! The color/the colour!!! Exactly what I shoot for dark with a red underglow!  Warm inviting not gaudy!  Hope to have a good look at her at Lewisburg soon!

PLEASE if any of you have problems like Roger describes let me know so I can see what is causing it. Not exactly sure what Roger is describing but remember if you are not logged in you will be looking around as a "guest" and can not make a post nor see some of the boards that are not open to "guests" i.e. "Over the Back Fence" is members only.

If you sign up as a new member the old user ID just hangs out there and takes up space for nothing and you start off from "0" on post counts.
