P. Davidson Gun Builder
« on: October 19, 2011, 03:55:37 PM »
I recently took in a very fine percussion schutzen style target rifle that is signed P. Davidson 1995 on top barrel flat. Was wondering if anyone has heard of this maker? Thanks all.....Joel

Hi Don and thanks for chimming in. The signature is pretty neat and tidy. P. Davidson.  I'll post a couple pics.

Could be Phill  Davidson from  Eaton Rapids Michigan?  He has made some fine rifles.

Thank you Mitch, your kindness is much appreciated! My good friend Bill Hammond who owns Spring Brook Trading Post in Eaton Rapids MI has known Phil Davidson for nearly 40 years. Bill told me that Davidson's work had been written up in past Muzzle Blast's and he even once made the front cover. Your attachment copy of this article means a lot to me! I have a current phone # for Phil Davidson and plan to give him a call one of these days. The photo at the bottom in your Nov. 95 article is definately of my schutzen rifle! It was made for a past member of my shooting club named Neal Spicer. The rifle came with it's custom made leather case with Neal's initials embroidered on it. By some coincidense several years ago I bought a flintlock poorboy squirrel rifle that had been made by Art Holly. I was told by the gunshop owner (Alpena MI) Holly had made the rifle back in the late 40's for a gentleman from Manistee MI.   I recently took this flinter out of my gun safe, along with the old business card attached to it. There is silver wire inlayed into the initials on the upper wrist.....N S. The card says made by Art Holly for Neal Spicer Manistee MI 1949.   All the very best to you Mitch!.........Joel

Funny how rifles get around. I don’t remember exactly where I picked it up but I own this rifle now. I just happened to be searching the builder’s name and came across this post. I guess I will have to check my emails and see where I made this deal. Same rifle, I assume. Leather case, 1995 with P. Davidson. Quite an enjoyable piece

Still loving it. I wish I could find a flinter (if he made one) to match it

Stay safe!
