Brass disc w/ key chain

   Where does one purchase the small round numbered brass disc w/ brass key chains?  I see them on many originals, especially at the KRA show etc.  I seem to have acquired enough originals and contemporaries that identifying them and keeping a record of the important details of each gun is important...just in case I check out before the spouse...   Thanks   Ron

Grainger will have them. I don't know if you have one in your area, if not then any commercial plumbing supply store will have them. They are used in my area to number valves in commercial fire supresion systems and steam heating systems.

Lucky R A,    The disc with the key chain makes for a nice display but please don't fall under the misconception they are going to be of much use to those that follow you in this world. Possibly at first but after a few people handle them they become suspect as they are easily removed and switched from gun to gun.

By far the greatest way to protect your collections value and insure your widow will have the right info for the right gun is thru photographs copied to an 81/2x11 sheet containing an accurate description and as much info as you can gather about the gun. Duplicate the info/picture sheet and keep in two different locations making sure she knows where they are kept.

This is also a great process for insuring your collection if you decide to do that as well.

At one time the KRA had 'Contract Applications' which took all the guess work out of a full report item list. It would be worth your time searching these applications out. HIB

I agree with HIB. The tags used in conjunction with photographs/describtion/history is best. If you really want to do a good job for yourself and those left behind, go to one of the make a photo book sites, like snapfish.com. I recently used their site to make a calendar& coffee cups of some of my rifles ( yeah I know I am weird) it turned out better than I thought. I am going to do my longrifle collection in one of their books. It is pretty simple just down load your pictures from your computer to their site , then you can make any style of book you want.There is space for describtion.Then when one of your collector friends brags about their rifles being in some book, you can say" all of mine are in a book". You can also make other items, with your photos. Sorry if this getting off track of your initial post.

    Thanks for the input.  Henry, the idea of a book with a photo or two of each gun with its information makes a lot of sense.  I order from MSC frequently so I will give them a shot for the I.D. disc.  Up here in the big green spot in the middle of PA there aren't many industrial supply stores....   Ron

In addition to printed photos, one can make a CD and easily copy the named pictures. A "word" file can be added to the CD describing each gun. Sometimes easier to store, reproduce or provide to an insurance agent. I also recommend insurance and would suggest "Chubb" fine arts ( all risks) which is very inexpensive and does not require an appraisal ( just description) for items under 50K.
