The Houston Gun Collectors commissioned this (when I'm finished with it) to go aboard the USS Houston 10 ga iron barrel 14" brass furnature

Looks good Dennis ... keep me informed on the progress.  I'll be by to check on it again.

Meanwhile ...  let's see who on here catches on to the tang slot and it's reason for existence first ...  ;D

A bit off topic, but is that a Hall rifle stock laying on the floor in the first picture? That would be an interesting project if that is what it is.

That's cool.  I refueled the USS Houston while it was at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 2001 to 2004.  The USS Houston is SSN 713,  the original area code for Houston Texas was 713.

On another note, The USS Kentucky, SSBN 737 has a longrifle on it.  I just found out last year that Charles Wallingford built it.  I have known Charles for a long while and had seen the rifle on the Kentucky over the years but never knew who built it until last years CLA show.  I was wondering around the CLA show with some memorabilia from the Kentucky, ask Charles if he wanted any of it and that is when he told me that he built the rifle.

The Hall Rifle project is going to be interesting to watch.  I've never even seen an original ... not even one of them at all.

 Glen that was the darndest thing how all that started first I made a blunderbuss cause I didn't have one (and that's all the reason one needs). Then a friend had me make him one cause I had one and he didn't (another darn good excuse) .Well he couldn't pay for it when the time came and just at that time the USS Texas (SSN 775) came into port to be commissioned I inquired as to if I could present it to the vessel and was approved .The captain noting it had never been done before in naval history. I had a box made and lined and solicited folks to have their names put in the box as co sponsors .I got paid more that way than if my friend would have bought it out right. The Sons of the Republic of Texas are a support group for the USS San Jacinto  (CG 56) (fired the first shot in the gulf war)when they saw the blunderbuss on the Texas they commissioned me to make one for them.
The Houston Gun collectors saw that and wanted one for eather the USS Houston or possibly the USS Ft. Worth. Some time things just happen right.
Last time I looked one could Google up USS Texas SSN775 Korea and see a tour of the Texas about mid way through they show the blunderbuss on board

I started the blunderbuss while waiting on some spring material for the wheelock
It's a little .52 cheek hunting rifle

You ask about a 10 ga .A friend of mine makes the barrels and I ask him to make one and gave him the OD dimintions ect  but never said anything about the ID it came out 10. the others are 11 ga any bigger and it would have been a rail gun. I figured they needed a blunderbuss you know theres pirates out in them waters AAaargg matie

One mate ask why I put a bayonet on it and I told him if he were in a hand to hand fight with a single shot weapon he'd want to know why there was only one bayonet on it.
