I need a piece of English walnut for a special project gun. Can any of you gentlemen guide me to a source? Save some phone calls.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,
If you are closer to the west coast there is also Goby in Oregon. They have a website:

Guess I'll pipe up here. I use a lot of figured and/or exotic wood in my business and I've had a number of upper level custom sporting guns built so I've dealt with all of these guys. (i've decided it's time for several more muzzle loaders now adays....smiles) Needless to say wood comes in different grades and their is a lot of "Exhibition" wood out there that isn't really of that quality. All of them are very accomodating.
Goby Walnut....They have mostly Black walnut but also deal in English. He has blanks in all grade levels. he has a lot shown on his site and will do what he can to find what you want.
Cecol Fredi....He also deals in English and Bastogne but I've rarely found the highest grade available from him. Call him and tell him what you want and he's send you pics of blanks he has on hand.
Luxus Walnut....if you want the absolute best in English these guys have tons of it. They also have all grades so if they have a length you want it would be a good place. Their Exhibition is truly exhibition and it is pricey but they have very nice wood in the other grades too. They sell Circassian walnut which is English grown in Turkey and has the "marble cake figure" They also show a lot on their website.
Those are the three I do most business with. Just to give you an idea how great these guys are...I once bought a piece on the net from Luxus. He was at a show at the time and had sold the piece I picked. He called me and apologized because he didn't remove it from his site in time so he sent me a blank of the next highest grade with no up charge. You'll find all those outfits great to deal with. hope this helped.

I have bought several pieces from Ron Scott. He has pieces expressly for gunstocks, right grain flow, generous stock profile pre-cut. Then you don't buy more wood than u need. Wayne Dunlap, too, has a nice selection of English on occasion.

This points to an important factor in my mind. If you are not there to pick the wood yourself or if you are a novice, it is a plus to deal with someone who knows guns/building as well as wood.
