Do any of you fellers know what the buttplate width and caliber of the Christian Oerter rifle with the Griffen carved on it?

I am not sure any of the articles on it were very detailed in terms of the sorts of measurements we used to get from George Shumway.  Will check later tonight.  Guessing 2.25" wide in the buttplate and 5" tall.

Mike,
You should contact Mark Wheland,  he copied the original and would probably have the information you seek.  www.markwhelandrifles.com

Barrel is .60 cal.  Butt is 1 3/4" X 4 15/16".

Thanks guys.I was told that the butt was only about 1 3/4" wide but I thought that it would be wider than that.

With the big flat box on the side, perhaps the butplate was measured to the box / butplate intersection rather than extending the imaginary curve of the butplate?
