John Shippers book arrived today
« on: December 11, 2011, 04:46:34 AM »
Walked out of my shop to go into my house and what to my wondering eyes did appear but a box on my back porch from the post office.  Picked it up and to my surprise it was from the NMLRA.   I immediately opened it up.  Had to stop what I was doing and thumb through the book.  Just put it down to grab a cup of coffee.
What a great book.  Worth every penny and worth the wait.  See you later.  Got to get back to the book.  I cannot believe all the information on just boarders alone.  Don't know when I will get to sleep.

Thanks for the heads-up Dave, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Not that I can't wait, but I wonder if the first run was enough to cover all the orders, or if there will be multiple runs.  I farted around and left the order form laying on my desk for several weeks, intending to mail in a check.  It dawned on me the other day that the "special price" expired on the 7th so I called the office and ordered my copy on the 5th.

I did the same, Dave. I guess I will just have to wait and see when it arrives. I have no experience with engraving, so I hope it will get a newbe started on the right track.

I  took Johns Class a few years ago at Conners Prarie.  The class got to see the book at that time .  It is the best book, I have seen on Longrifle Engraving.   Looking forward to getting my copy.

I received my Mr. Shippers book today and I must say it is terrific. The pictures are the best. They are crystal clear and show great detail. This book would be a bargain at twice the price. Can't wait to really get into it. Maybe I'll learn something.  JZ

Mine's on its way all the way to South Africa. I am currently learning engraving and I'm told this book is the last word in long rifle engraving. Can't wait.

Can't wait to see it, I'll get to check it out tonight.  One of the guys in our building group ordered it, so I'll get to preview and maybe even borrow it before I toss down a fun chip and change.   ;)

I ordered mine when it was anounced by NMLRA for a member discount. About a week later when my Muzzle Blasts came there was an ad that also gave a years membership with the book. I got on the phone with them and I got the year membership as well. What a deal about half price.

The book is great I wish I had it a long time ago the more I read it, the more I find things that I'm doing the hard way. The images in the book are outstanding look almost like illustrations, soo much detail. I also have The Art of Engraving by Meek, in my humble opinion this book will become the new go to tutorial for tratitional ML engraving.

Three cheers for Mr. Shippers

I had seen the prototype of the book at the CLA show the last couple of years and have been chomping at the bit to get one.  I ordered it the moment I got my letter from NMLRA.  It arrived and my wife wrapped it in Christmas paper with orders not to open.  Oh well!!

My copy has now been christened with coffee and tomato sauce.

Oh well, it's a shop book, right? Good quality photos, most of them are very crisp and clear. Nice description of methods of borders and scrolls. A serious resource, for sure. Thank you, Mr Schippers.

Heard someone laying their horn in the driveway.  It was the mail lady hand delivering my copy of the book, rather than leaving it on the front porch in the rain.

Did a quick thumb thru.  It will definitely replace Meek's book, which was really beyond the scope of a beginning engraver.  I think it will get the beginner up and running quickly and inexpensively, while still providing enough material for them to progress.

I look forward to spending more time reading it.  Thumbs up, John.

I kept putting it off, but ordered it Tuesday the 13th. Called NMLRA today (the 16th) to see when it had been sent, went out to get the mail and there it was! ;D The lady at NMLRA said they had already sold around 700.

Wow, John! Great book! Now I am happy. ;D

The way I figure it basically comes down to a free NMLRA membership if you buy the book. Guess I'm going to join again. Hope this helps membership.
