ALR Members "Gathering" at Ft. Boonesborough - TODAY!!!
« on: December 23, 2011, 07:07:20 AM »
The management at Ft. Boonesborough State Park has offered us the use of the Blockhouse again this year for an ALR get-together.  We will be meeting on Saturday, January 28, from 10am to 4pm, with a break for lunch, maybe at Hall's again?

All ALR members and anyone that's interested in the study, building, shooting, etc. of long rifles, horns, bags, knives, etc. is welcome.  Bring works in progress, recently completed pieces, items for sale or trade.

In past years we've had from 10 to 15 attendees, but we can accommodate more, and we always have a great time, so please come and join us.  We usually try to have some tutorials lined up, so if anyone has any tips or how-to's they would be willing to pass along, please let me know.

I'd like to get a rough head count, so I can let Bill at the Fort know how many tables and chairs we need, so please let me know if you think you will be attending.

I'll be looking forward to seeing y'all again.

Ron, you can bet I'll be there.  Really enjoyed the last two.  I'll bring a Lehigh that I'm building for  my nephew.  I hope you bring that customized CVA you've been working on.  Would love to see it.

Hey,

If anyone has a small air compressor (mine is a little bulky but not totally stationary), maybe I could bring the Lindsay Airgraver.  Let me know if you're interested.

Jeff, that would be great!  I don't have a compressor, but I will start checking around.  If anybody that's coming to Boonesborough has a portable one, please let us know.

I'm also working on a pewter nose cap pouring demo.  Still need to work out some details.

Should be a good time.  Will be great to see old friends and make some new ones.

BillC, welcome to ALR!  I hope you and your wife can join us.

Ron, I'll have to wait and see what the work schedule is before I commit. I would really like to go and meet everyone. Mike New.

Count me in. Also, if anyone planning to attend has an original late flint period (post 1800) English rifle, or a good rendition of one, I would be most interested in seeing it. I have some photos of one that Dick Chubb had at Friendship a few years ago but need more details before I start a build.
Thanks,
Mike C.

Jeff and Ron--
I have a pancake compressor that is not too hard to handle. Don't know what kind of attachment that you need but mine is the standard 1/4 inch type.

Not a rifle, but rather a 16 ga English shotgun circa 1820s

Probably from Birmingham and lock likely by Thomas Moxham. Rather plain

Can bring if it would help

All the best

Paul:
Please bring the fowler. What I am interested in is the reverse taper on the lock panel and just how it was achieved. Was the lock plate bolster tapered or the barrel flat or both? Need more info.
Plan to see you at Boonesborough!

Looks like it's shaping up to be a good time.

At least one old gun coming (yes, Paul, please bring the fowler!) and there should be several in-progress and finished guns.  The more, the merrier, so bring 'em out.  Accoutrements too, we like bags, horns, knives and hawks.  Do you have any parts or pieces for sale or trade?

Planned Demo's and How-To's, so far:
Lindsey AirGraver
Pouring a pewter nosecap
Lindsey sharpening setup
Making a scratch-stock (molding scraper)

If you have a demo, how-to or tip you're willing to share, please do bring it.  If you have questions or need something on-site in order to do your demo, let me know here or by PM.

Hope to see you there.

I'll hopefully be there. I am going to be making a selection of things for the meet to hopefully gain money towards a truck.

By the way...
If you're coming and want to give the Lindsay Airgraver a test run, bring something to engrave.

I to have a small, portable compressor if it could be of service, let me know.  I could bring an assortment of fittings to contrive mating it to whatever is being used.  I think my fittings are called "Type D".

Charlie and Wm.,

Thanks for the offers.  Sounds like my compressor is probably as small as Charlies anyway, so I'll just plan on bringing it.  It shouldn't be too much trouble and I know all the needed fittings will be there.
