A Verner companion piece

       I recently completed a copy of RCA 63, "the Verner rifle," and posted some photos here on the forum.  With that project complete I decided that a companion piece was in order.  I had a 12" piece of 50 cal. barrel on hand, so it was shortened to 10" and turned half round.  The smallest lock I had available that would look right was an unused Hamm lock from many years ago.  Other than the cast trigger guard all parts were shop made.   I was unaware that Verner had made at least one pistol and was about three quarters done with the project, when a friend sent me photos of an original Verner pistol.   I decided to add a double headed eagle at the same place Verner did, and there were a few other differences.  The original version did not have an extended entry pipe, but it seems so classic to the school that I felt it should be there.  I guess this would be a good example of a piece that was inspired by a school of architecture, but not a copy.   I hope you enjoy it.

Very nice!   

I have a handful of antique sleigh bells like those, except the leather had rotted away long before I found them.    I intend to rivet them to a new strap one of these days.   

Anyway Lucky R A, that is one fine looking pistol!

Very nice work.  Great idea to have a pistol along with the rifle.  Wood figure, finish, and lock selections look great.

Well done Ron.  And you beat me to it!!  After I finished my Verner, I thought too, that a Verner pistol would compliment the rifle very nicely.  So I took the photos of the two originals whose images are published, to Staples and enlarged them to full size.  But that's as far as I got, dang it.
I fully intend to follow up on my plan, and in the meantime, I am enjoying looking at yours.
Actually, I know of three originals that have been published, and the grip on yours is very close to the one that Jim Whisker presented in Muzzle Blasts last year some time.
