J.H. but not Hellega

Comments:

Not sure who made this gun, but it appears to be an honest rifle with pleasing carving, finish and a nice patchbox.  I would put this in the library, but hopefully someone will be able to identify it before it's placed there.

A very nice rifle in very fine condition.  Who made it?  I haven't a clue, but perhaps someone here does.

No, it's not a Hillegas gun, but it surely is a nice rifle! The profile is unusual and it has the look of a radical Lehigh piece. It may be one of those borderland guns where schools overlapped and almost anything could show up. The cockscomb patch looks like Berks and the sideplates look a tad Upper River School.
Whatever, whoever, it is a very pretty rifle and one we all would like to own.

Interesting architecture!  It almost has a transitional Huntingdon County look to it, but the checkering throws me off.  Not sure where it fits in.
