Does anyone know if JP Beck used copper for items like ramrod pipes, or were they iron and brass?
Any iformation would be great.
Thanks
Tom

Tom,
I have only seen a couple of Original Beck rifles but all three were all brass mounted. I may be off base here but for where he worked they didnt make many Iron mounted guns.

What about trigger guards and butt plates in iron?

Brass. Three copper rivets in the nosecap were pretty common.

Iron furniture was almost never used by Pennsylvania gunsmiths working 1770-1820, as far as we know. I cannot think of a single example excepting some barn guns with an iron strap guard.
Unfortunately some companies that supply ML parts cast many furniture sets in steel and sell them as though they represent original furniture.

Hi,
Pure copper is much too soft for gun furniture unless it is made really beefy. It also will tarnish and turn color rapidly. For a Beck, brass is the right material.

Historically, I don't know of any Beck rifles with iron furniture, or set triggers for that matter.
But it may be that that is what you want....so build it! I had a friend who wanted such a rifle, and here's how it turned out.

I really like that Taylor, but then I love iron mounted guns.
