5/16 ss rod?
« on: January 30, 2012, 03:50:28 PM »
Where's the cheapest supplier for 5/16 stainless roundstock?  MSC has gone up quite a bit in the past few years and I've searched the scrap dealers around here with no luck.  I've got several friends who need rods, but they're broke like me.  ;D

Try Metal Super Market in Ohio.
Phone# 1-440-942-0756. I buy most of the materials I use from them. They have no minimums and will cut to length if requested.
I haven't used MSC since 1989 when the misplaced an order I made with them for a dial indicator wth a 2" travel and then thought it was funny. There are too many industrial supply shops around that need the business to put up with an outfit that got far too big to deal with.

How many pieces do you want and how long?
I have some 303 in 4 ft +- lengths that I can sell cheaper than MSC.

I would be interested in some 4 ft 5/16 SS rod, especially if one end was drilled and taped 8/32. Tapping SS is the worst part when making cleaning rods.

The 303 rod Dan is offering is free machining stainless.  It will drill and tap very easily.

Gotta buy a tap for use with stainless and use a GOOD lube.
