Jessie McGlemary Shot Pouch
« on: February 28, 2012, 10:18:01 PM »
Here's my version of the McGlemary shot pouch as illustrated in Jim Webb's book and the latest issue of the American Tradition.  Unlike the original I used 1 inch leather strapping with a steel browned buckle for adjustibility and attached to a piece of leather sewn on the bag of the pouch.
The pouch is made from a piece of old fashioned tanned deer hide of about 4 - 4.5 oz then lightly dyed with light brown.  I then fashioned some strips of fringe cut from the same hide using waxed 7 cord to simulate the thin strips of leather used on the original.
The overall width is approx 6 3/4" by roughly 8".   I fashioned a small hanging pouch and sewed to the inside back.  The flap and body was all cut out in one piece then sewn up using the 7 cord.

Gary,  In the roaring twenties they would have called that a "flapper" bag.
Nicely done!  I like it.
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Nice job...these "bearded bags" are quickly becoming my favorites. Only a few  originals of this style exist, but those that do are all so similar I would think that they have to have a common origin.
