This guy guy got s-----d!!!!! The seller did not make any false claims either---note to everyone---- DO YOUR HOMEWORK, and ask for a no hassle return guarantee if you are not satisfied.. This guy has no recourse as no return policy was indicated.  The guy he out bid is actually the WINNER in this one!~!!!Can any one see the "problems" with this one???....Ed

Didn't Dixie used to sell a set of blunderbus furniture and a barrel that looked a lot like that one? Then there's that lock....

Oh, yeah . . . a Lott lock. Have one on my Pedersoli NW gun.

Did sort of a failure investigation in the '80's, Indian made blunderbuss imported by a reputable firm. Shooter used an empty shotgun shell full of black powder + newspaper wadding to make some noise. Fortunately when the breechplug blew out it missed his head, no physical injuries.

The Indian steel breech plug was too small as-threaded. Although it had blown out, only the very tips of the fine threads were smeared over. Fine threads. I could thread the plug back in easily, and it did rattle.

One NEVER uses, or should never use, fine threads in brass. Need to use  a coarse thread, for strength. A boring engineering thing.

I imagine it would be best if the "winner" did not shoot it.

Looks like with 26 bids taking this piece skyward that there are a lot of uneducated buyers out there!

There appears to be "1 5 0" stamped on the barrel (last picture)?

Dixie catalog from 1988 lists a remarkably similar barrel (brass, 15 1/2" long) that were selling for $59.95 in '88.

It works both ways. Here is a gun that I think was a "sleeper' on the same auction site. Turns out it is a Swan contract musket that was converted to a cavalry carbine, possibly at the Virginia Manufactory. The barrel markings are actually "40 Va REG LOUISA". The 40th Virginia militia was from Louisa County. The numbers on the brass parts and barrel might be Virginia Mabufactory applied. It is original flintlock and the only thing that has been done to it is the conbversion to a carbine.

Al, glad you got that one. I was watching it but did'nt know enough about military muskets to make a bid. I guess the seller didn't know what he had, if he had listed it as a Swan contract musket, you wouldn't have got it so cheap. I guess it goes THREE way...do your homework, you did, and it payed off!!!!!....Ed
