58 cal Rice barrel
« on: March 25, 2012, 04:49:22 AM »
I finished fitting my new Rice 1"x 36" .58 cal barrel a few weeks ago & have been playing with open sights trying to find something these tired old eyes can find.  A big "U" notch rear & a ball bearing soldered to the front blade seems to be the best I can do with open sights.  Today I couldn't resist the spring weather, so I grabbed my rifle & headed to the club.  Last week I was shooting GOEX 2f & was getting an annoying lag so today I took 3f & the difference was amazing!  The 3f makes the ignition as fast as any cap buster.  I used a W.L. touch hole liner & drilled to 1/16" as with my previous 50 cal G.M. barrel & am still using 4f prime.  So far the accuracy seems comparable between 2f - 3f (70gr of either) & the point of impact at 100 yards was nearly identical.  I guess I'll be using the couple cans of 2f I bought for this barrel as blanket prizes this spring!

Pardon the poor image quality, I just grabbed a couple shots with my phone.

Sounds good, looks good...if you get a chance, any possibility of seeing closeups of the sights?

(My .58cal is a 38" Rice D-weight)

Will do RB.  I tried today but the camera on my phone doesn't have a good macro setting.  I'll take the Nikon out tomorrow & try for a few close-ups.  Those Rice barrels seem to shoot pretty fine!  Mine is a straight 1".  I do like the 58!  My rifle balances much nicer with the lighter barrel.  Thanks for the comment.
