Simple Horns From Georgia
« on: March 28, 2012, 09:02:03 PM »
From way back in time in the Swamps of  Southeast Georgia:

The one on the top right is a powder horn.  For those not steeped in old Southern Hunting, the other three are  “hound horns” used by the long dead swampers to locate the dogs or signal to the other hunters.

This one dates from the early to mid 1800’s, exact timing lost with my deceased ancestors.  Note the copper reinforcing band.  Still has the old buckskin strap.

Close up of the oldie.  Look real hard and you will see the fish “scratchings”.

Looks like some fine family history to me. I enjoyed the pics ;D
Nothing beats the feel of a handmade southern iron mounted flintlock on a cold frosty morning

That is nice to see, a little of the past from my adopted state.
