Care for old horn?
« on: April 23, 2012, 07:21:28 PM »
I bought an old worn horn this weekend, it is very dry, scratched and the finish is gone from the wooden plug. What is recommended to put on this horn to preserve it and make it look better? Hand lotion, bee's wax, oil?? Also, how about the wood plug, furniture polish? It needs a couple of worm holes filled too, it was suggested to use bee's wax for that, maybe I should just coat the whole horn with it.

Thanks

Howard’s Feed-N-Wax will work on both as will a good hand lotion with lanolin in it.
Put it on with your hands. If it has a patina be careful not to rub it off.
As for the holes I wouldn’t do anything with them, just enjoy the horn for what it is.

I happen to have some Howard's under the sink, think I will try a little test spot and see how it does, Thanks!
