« on: May 01, 2012, 01:43:35 PM »
Cut at the Muzzle shooters...
I load with Bear grease/deer tallow mix.
Wanted a way to keep lubed patches clean, keep my bag clean during late winter squirrel hunts.....started here..
cobbled up with 35  mm. film container and decoy anchor screw.
Can hear the laughing from here!

after many model changes it morphed into this.....

Sent these out to 5 field testers so far so good.

ash-oak-cherry

fits in the hand ,fits in the bag...it even works!

The Lubed patch roll holders are fun to make ....The things we do after our day jobs..... ;D

Now that is a neat idea.  A way to keep a roll of lubed ticking clean and neat.

These will hold in excess of 21" of patch .020 thick material..could have cut longer just left some room to spin .

That is a really great idea, will have a go at one myself.  Were such things used in the olden days?

Nifty! Tried making one out of horn yet? I think that's what the 18th century originals were, if I'm not mistaken. ;D ;D ;D

I would like to see how you actually use the device.  Do you just wheel out a strip, set the ball below the muzzle, grab both ends of the cloth and cut?

That is slick. Beats learning to juggle.

Here's an idea, which may not be practical given the thickness of the container wall:

About 90 degrees from the slot, on the side of the cylinder, put a short stub of brass for seating the ball in the muzzle. Then you could pull out a short length of patch across the muzzle, put a ball on it. rotate the unit 90 degrees, bring it back over the muzzle, and smack the ball flush. Cut and done.

You might need to put in a brass or steel reinforcing ring around the middle to support the stub.

pull out enough patch to cover muzzle..left thumb pressure on slot tamp ball below muzzle pinch patch material together above ball.cut patch...

FANTASTIC!!!! So much better than wiping the grass, sand, pocket fuzz etc off my roll of pre-lubed patch material!
And, as others have said, it really looks good too!!
I'll bet Daniel Boone and his buddies all carried one!!!  ;D
