another newbie question

when shaping the fore stock with a swamped barrel, should the stock follow the profile of the barrel or should it run straight? Thanks for the info, gents.

I always follow the barrel contour. Makes for a much livelier gun, no straight lines, all subtle curves. I like to gently drop the top line of the stock (where wood comes up on bbl flat) from the breech to the muzzle, starting about 1/2 way up the side flat, and slowly lowering it toward the muzzle.

so, I'm guessing that I want to keep the "flat spacing" equal all along the barrel? (and KINDA tiny?)

One way of keeping the stock thickness even along the swamped barrel is to take a 1/8" drill bit or 1/8" thick piece of steel or brass a couple inches long and slide it along the top of the stock at the side flat.

Acer, thanks, I have never noticed that before. Have I got this correct? You start with the wood half way up on the side flat at the lock panel and slowly lower that line say to 1/3 of the way up the flat at the nose cap. Correct? Bob
