Blind Hog.....Finds Acorn!!
« on: May 20, 2012, 08:05:44 PM »
So about three weeks ago I was in the hospital recovering from some surgery and feeling sorry for myself when I received a call on my cell. It was the President od the Chop Tank Muzzleloaders from the Eastern shore of MD. He informed me that one of the two raffle tickets I had purchased from Dave Ciekot (our own Osprey) had won me a JP Beck styled .50 caliber rifle!!  Rice  42" barrel, Large Siler lock, set triggers and nicely carved with some silver inlay.

Made My Day!!!

I received the rifle from USPS Friday morning and yesterday Mike Markey (Micah) and I drove up to Baldwin GA for a silhouette shoot with the Blue Ridge Mountain Men... I packed the Beck along.  Without sighting it in or anything I loaded her up with .75 grains of fffg and hit the hanging woodchuck target at 80 yards.... so I quit while I was ahead.... well I probably should have..... the gun shoots a lot better than I do...

The BRMM were wonderful hosts, Micah was a great person to share the day with and we had a blast... Micah shot quite well!!  He was shooting a Beck he had recently built for himself which is a beautiful rifle!!

Here are some pics of my Raffle Beck!!  Built by Osprey and Phil Stoval, Jerry Kerchner, Pete Tyler, Ron Sweet, Jim Lohr, Jerry Garey.

This is by far the nicest thing I have ever won!!

Wow, I think I just might go into the hospital for that. Depending on what they wanted to do...

Congrats!

Wow!  Congrats on the win, hope it helps make up for the hospital visit.  I'm usually just happy to get out of the hospital with most of my parts intact.

Hey Doc, you one lucky son of a gun.   I know that Stovall has a gun meeting night with some friends, I've known him,
Jerry Kirchner, Doc Sweet for a long time, good bunch of fellows, and they cranked out a pretty neat rifle..........Don

Glad you like the rifle Doc!  We were talking about you at our club shoot yesterday, we were all glad to know it went to someone who will actually shoot it.  If you ever want to take a road trip come up to MD and shoot with us sometime!

But geez, a fella wins one little ole gun and gets so loopy I become an Ed?   :D

Certainly a great way to recover from some surgery! Love the engraving on the patch box very neat and boldly done.

Tim and I definitley had fun at the shoot and what a great bunch of guys.

I loved Tim's new rifle, raffles are so great. My problem is I'm usually on the losing side. His new "Raffle Beck" looks very similar to my new Beck (only about 2 months old) that I was shooting, similar in color and wood and even used the same patchbox silhouette and toe plate. We were shooting the fanciest rifles there. Our rifles looked like beautiful sisters, turned a lot of heads. Here's a couple of pics of mine for comparison.

Tim exagerated some about how well I did. It was a great improvement over my last outing there but still far from a winning performance. I think the winner posted 50 with a string of 15 in a row. I got a measley 22 with a string of 3 in a row. But next year watch out, I'll be back improved.

I think Tim is still recovering some from his surgery, next year Tim when your fully mended we'll do it again. We really had a great time there and I can't wait for next year.

Great rifles fellows.  And Dr Boone, you are sure lucky.  One of my best shooting buddies won the NMLRA rifle last year (built by Dennis Priddy) and I thought he was the luckiest fellow on earth, but now there are two lucky sons of guns.  Congratulations on winning a sweet rifle.

Tim, as my signature shows, that gun ain't done until I see a pic of you with it and dead critters!   ;D

IF you're really lucky we should have another raffle coming up in a couple years.  Phil oversaw this build, I'll probably run the next one if the club wants to do it again.
