It did hold amazingly - well for a smoothbore, that is. As smoothbores go if he loads it correctly, (fat chance of that - HA! well, no doubt in my mind to the positive) it should shoot very well as a smoothie. We will test it to the limits of accuracy with RB, LeatherBelly willing. I really hting that will be fun, and educational at the same time.

I turned down Daryls' offer immediately! His didn't cover the cost of the parts!
T.Currie, yes it's Jim C's upgraded side plate.I asked him to exchange for the upgraded one.
Roger, maybe it's weird, but I've come to like the "heads up" stance and I hold on the upper bicep, right elbow up. Don't have to reach for the trigger and my big schnoz won't get clobbered by my thumb with a tad longer pull! ;D The cool thing about this guns hold is, the back flat is all you see until close to the sight due to the taper and flair. My rifle length is 1/2" less with same stance.
Bush Bob(srry,no offense) 8) The barrel profile is close to a 20 g only at the breech. This barrel has a nice taper thru the octagonal part and tapers more thru the round to a sweet flair at the muzzle. At the muzzle,I think it's still a bit smaller then most 20's. Well chit,DTS already answered this.
Lynn,(grinning),lol! Yep, getting face cramps. I think I'll go clean a toilet! :o

Taylor,

Really nice looking fowler!  I'd second your sentiments regarding John Schipper's wonderful book.  You've done him proud with the engraving, well done!

LB, There's another gun coming your way, when yo get her about this time next week, just swap out the one in there, and put the marble shooter in there when you send the box back.  I need a Taylor gun to round out my  Top Contemporary builders.  Had to send it priority mail, they don't do ground economy any more,  Marked as requested, do a good repair, and test of that baby.  The girls at the P.O. were messing with me , in a good way.  They hauled out the mailing manual, to look up about guns, when a flag came up on the computer.  The computer had the wrong  section to check, 602.12.01, when it should have been 601.11.5.1  They were impressed when I gave them the correct reg.
then they wanted to see it, and like a fool I had my drill in the Jeep, so we opened it up, and they liked it, but now I have to bring them in open so they can ogle them.  It's good living in the boonies.

It'll be a tight fit but it will make it buddy.  I'm gonna have to build a new box.  Al Martin is building me a 52" barrels .52 cal. Lehigh, and I jut got a 49" 58 cal Ed Rayl barrel for what i think I will  make a Virginia.  Enjoy them Brother from another Mother.  If Taylor build a slug (which I doubt) and it doesn't shoot worth a @!*%, send it to me as i can't shoot worth a @!*% anyway.

Impressive, and inspiring too.  I see that its a smoothie, but a bit long and unwieldy for a duck-blind! ;D

BTW, put me on the list for that coffee-table book please.

@!*%, my cleaning rod's too short! Fiddling with ball casting, patch gauging, patch cutting. Doing the math. .540 bore, minus .510 ball=.030 bore windage. So I tried a .020 thick denim patch(that's squeezing it with dial calipers) Measures .023 without a pinch on the jaws.Hmm,that gives me .005+ compression around the ball. I'll use this as a starting point. Ok, I just measured my fresh balls (hmm, that doesn't sound right) and I'm seeing .512 -.514. Even better.
My thinking with the smaller balls is that if I can get more lubed patch(thicker) around the ball,it won't lose it's lubricity loading through the 50" length. Especially where it's needed most, that being the last 6-10 inches above the charge. So the fun begins.First a cleaning rod.

Ol Leatherbelly better do that piece justice or they'l tie him to a tree next winter.....He'll love a 28 shootin r ball.  I do wonder how tall and long in the arms he is to fit that 14 1/2 inch pull?

Roger, he didn't get his moniker by being tall and having long arms. ;)
Actually, it's his chicken neck and skinny biceps that demand a long stock. :D

Daryls,
I tried something. I put the butt on my shoulder instead of my upper bicep and it still fits great! No argument over "chicken neck".lol! but biceps are getting stronger and measured 13 1/2" unflexed. Physiotherapy is working! 18 months of doing nothing(due to hip replacement surgery) surely ran it's toll on this ol' bod. Physio kicks the tar outta me every other day(worse then Acer ever could, ...and he wants too, hehehe) I may go out to the range today and experiment a little. I'll see how I feel after my therapy today. Oh, and Daryls, thanks for the compliments,ya flea bitten camel lover. ;D  ...and, Sammy is now fully trained...to pee on "green" canvas. :o

That little Dachsy looks like our little girl Gretl. We also had a red one,Rommel but he had a stroke and died back in 2008.
The Dachshund has always been our favorite small breed of dog and probably always will be.

I just got home this evening after having the extreme pleasure of being Taylor's house guest for a few days.  This gun is even more than what we've come to expect from Taylor!  He places some of the credit on John Schipper's new book on engraving & I agree, he seems to have gleaned a fair degree of refinement to his already good engraving.  Well done Taylor!  I like it!  It does fit Leatherbelly quite well even with the long pull, unfortunately I was having such a good time with the boys from Prince George, I forgot to dig my camera out of the suit case!

At our local rondy this weekend I shot terrible. Wednesday I shot it great. Only one dry ball Saturday and one  only today. :o PITA DB'ing with a loong barrel, lol.First time in several years. My turn. Rained ,then it rained hard, then it backed off to a steady drizzle.Tough test drive for the new gun but all I can do from here on in is shoot it better(I think).Back out in the morning for a sucker shoot, grudge match and some in camp shooting.Powder patch ball, lol!

Are you bringing Jake? If so,I'll bring Sam.(the Hawken Bros?) Jake looks like a big standard.Sam is supposed to be a standard but me thinks there's a "mini" in the woodpile,so to speak.Sam got 4 kills on the weekend.Cleaned the cabin out of mice and the boys staying  there had a weekend hero, lol!
Still working this new fowler in. Weather is not co-operating a bit this weekend but will get out today and wring her out some more. Sure is fun to shoot.
