18th c. Euro Belt Dagger
« on: July 08, 2012, 10:27:09 PM »
Inspired, but not directly copied, by #18.K in Neumanns "SWORDS and BLADES of the AMERICAN REVOLUTION". 1750-1790. 8"x 1 1/4" blade of 01 steel, with a through tang peened over an iron washer, hand filed elk leg bone grip with a bone file cut butt cap. Iron guard, sterling silver ferrule with a hand engraved flower on four sides. All very lightly aged. Hope you enjoy a look.

Great looking piece of work.  Love the handle.  Personally, I think it's definitely got that Midshipman's look about it.

Wick,

There are a few people in the known universe that can, with consistency, pick up a plain piece of steel and a discarded fragment of animal bone and make a utilitarian work of art out of them.  Magnificent !!!

And, as Collector noted, the lines do have the look of a Midshipman's dirk about them.  Having been a Midshipman in the U.S. Navy for four years at one point in my early life, perhaps that explains why I am particularly drawn to this one of your exquisite knives.

Will you make a scabbard for it?  I would love to see that as well.

Thanks for the posting...and the talent!
