I'm trying to find a copy of English Pattern Trade Rifles" Proceedings of the 1984 Trade Gun Conference, Pt. 2 Rochester,NY: Rochester Museum and Science Center, 1985.

Any idea where to look? Haven't found it on line.

Thanks

Pretty sure I got mine from the museum.  It took a long time but it came eventually.

There was also an excellent, and more detailed, set of articles in the old Buckskin Report in the 1980's by Shumway addressing trade rifles in general, with at least 2 issues dedicated to the English ones.

Rich, does this include the Wilson, Barnett and Grice rifles? What Shumway calls the Type A? I'm finishing one for my presentation on Trade Guns for Dixon's next weekend. Always looking for more research data.

Chuck, THANK YOU for the link!

Jack Brooks has original mounts and barrel from the George  Shamway rifle.
The only complete Grice is in Fort Ticonderoga museum.

Michael you're welcome and I have the second article by Shumway in pdf format that Rich mentioned which is the one specifically on English Trade rifles, including the type A (it came courtesy a friend). Send me an email to gray8wolf@yahoo.com and I'll email it to you as an attachment.

 - the first article briefly mentioned them and included some pictures - thought I had it too but can't find it.

Chuck I couldn't connect to your email. Yes, please send me the Shumway information. I did order the complete report from Rochester but it won't be here for a couple of days. Going to the Lancaster Rifle exibit at Landis Valley this weekend and I need something to read at the hotel.

Mike I have Baileys book and there is a lot of information in the new book on trade guns just reciently put out by the Museum of the Fur Trade.

Rickp
I emailed Jack and he said he would take some pictures of what is left of the rifle and send them to me.

Michael,

I have the Rochester book and a  auditgraphed copy of Dr. Bailey Book.
I also have dug parts for a Grice Brass Box and bent but plate.
I have broken trigger guards an entry pipe and rod guide.

If any one is interested, I came make molds and wax patterns.
The pictures used by Jim Hanson at Museum of the Fur trade
are all from George Shaumway.

I think I still have a copy of that set of articles.  That was about the time Ron Paul was making his copy of the English trade rifle and I got caught up with the trade rifle bug.  All I remember was that the rifle Ron Paul made was a  big heavy gun.  I will have to check my 3 ring binder.
