Here's a little Lehigh I just finished, based on Neihart, with a touch of Rupp and Kuntz. I like all three of them, so this is a blend. Neihart's carving makes no sense to me, but I love it.

Anyway, enjoy the rifle pix.

Please critique my work. I know I made many mistakes. Some you will pick up on them, and some only I will know!  ;D

Cheekside full length shot.



The behind the cheek carving, very closely follows Neihart. I think the man was crazy.

Lock to butt, with a Chambers 'Late Ketland' English lock, modified to look more Kuntzy.



Closeup of lock area. Note I changed the tail of lock and running borders.

A close up of patchbox head and wrist carving.



Entry thimble and carving. The forestock shape transition into the grip area.




Nosecap, wrapped around the wood, lapping in the bbl channel, riveted. Man, this was hard to do.


And then the ubiquitous Lehigh face.



Getz .40 cal, straight taper, from 7/8 down to 3/4. Shortened to 38".
Sugar maple, root flare.
Finish: spirit varnish: shellac with dragon's blood, boiled linseed over top.
The butt plate and guard hardware are Reaves 'Neihart'.
Lock is Chambers Late Ketland, modified.

Lazer carving eh.............................. :o :o ;D   Just kidding............   I don't know enough about Lehigh guns to comment on architecture... To my untrained eye it has a very pleasing slender and well balanced look.. like a piece of sculpture

I really like the full barrel reveal above the forestock and the RR reveal under the forestock. The customization of the lock is a very nice touch and as always your execution of carving, wood to metal fit and engraving is inspiring... @!*% you do nice work!!!

Surprising isn't it   ;D ;D ;D

Its too bad you forgot to cut off the RR at the muzzle..... 

I would suggest that you take a glass of Jameson's , sit back and just gaze at it!!  Then take it to Dixon's for the other judges to judge.

Don't know nothin bout no lehighs, but that one looks pretty good to me. ;D Only one thing bothers me is the patch box screws all line up....really stops the flow of the eye.
 You should probably get a medal for that nose cap. ;D

Tom,

This rifle was a slender beauty when I saw it in the white.  Finished, it just pops.  Can't wait to see it at Dixon's.

Now, I would recommend a glass of Jack, but that's just me.  ;D

By the by, the lock shaping is great, really like the running border, very cool and appropriate. Snowman?..... I missed that. I'll drink more beer  and look again. ;D

Mike, middle o f the cheekpiece carving, the stack of circles. Neihart's signature 'snowman' has two balls. Mine has three, just so you don't get confused who made the gun. Hahahhaa.

You may of missed the snowman, I did, but if you drink enough beer the two screws on the patchbox finial start to look like eyeballs and then the rest of the finial turns into a grotesque mask. ;D

   A really nice effort Tom, but you gotta be a little careful about who you hang out with.  The next thing you will get a reputation for inbibing....iffen you do that you may start carving snowmen and such on guns----

Tom, Like the snowman also and the bit of folksy this gun has. The Patchbox lid appears to only have a fine engraved border. How did you resist doing more ? Nice work on the lock also.

Looking forward to seeing it firsthand next weekend.

Hi Tom,
Wonderful, wonderful gun!!  I love the wood, the color, the carving, the architecture, everything.  The lock alone is worth the price of admission.  My only initial criticism was that I wasn't sure I liked the buttplate with its toe curving so far backward.  But after looking for a while, it really seems that it is exactly the right choice for the architecture of the gun.  I think you hit the nail right on the head.  Thanks for sharing.

It's a good thing you got one or two of those ramrod thingy's, or you'd still be tapering it to make it finish. ;D.  Are you going to have it at Dixon's.  Yeah, I'm with LB, where's Lady Liberty,  I really like the one's that look like Marge Simpson ;D
