Boxlock

While his blog is mostly devoted to underhammers, Renner has up today a late period boxlock muzzleloader worth an oogle. It's an Allan boxlock with a .62 caliber Forsyth rifled OTR barrel. Pretty piece.

And what's "Dutch silver?" Is that a euphemism for German silver that rose during WWI?

"German silver" is a nickel-copper-zinc alloy and contains no chemical element Ag. Deceptive terms like this were widely used in the 19th century for pocketwatch cases, all contained the word "silver" along with a qualifier, like Fahys, or nickel to mention a few.

Not bad stuff. Cleans nicely with some buffing, but has almost no scrap value. Easier to polish than sterling silver, but lacks that subtle luster.

Then there is always paktong.  It is an alloy of copper, nickel and zink. Paktong was imported into England from China.
