Thoughts on this southern rifle

Really interesting rifle, in my opinion its Piedmont NC but others suggest SC, GA, KY, TN and even VA!. It has 6 inches of drop at heel (intended to be shot off bicep) has 43 inch swamped barrel 36-38 caliber (not sure which) Barrel is .975 at breech, .909 21.5 inches from breech and .950 at the muzzle. The rifle has 3 sight bases, I feel sure this idea comes from NC, Jim Webb told me he has seen 2 different Jamestown rifles with 3 sight bases.

The rifle has some incised carving in front of the nose of the comb, some suggested this as a SC feature. There is a period repair on the left side, it appears to be some type of square iron rod that runs vertically through the left panel just behind the lock bolt. I suspect a crack that started behind the side plate. The repair is solid, no movement at all.

Dennis, that is certainly an interesting rifle. I have seen that comb carving featured on a SC rifle, similar  extreme drop on a SC rifle, but a similar tang on Middle TN rifles.

The triggerguard suggests NC. The pointed tang is interesting, I don't recall seeing one tapered quite like that.
