These are links to a Bonewitz flintlock made for me. I sent these photos to Art to post on the CM site, but I thought I would post them on the ALR.

This is an interpretation of a John Bonewits rifle that Henry Bishop e-mailed me 21 photos of. The original rifle is located in the Minneapolis Museum of Fine Arts. I made an album containing 21 8 by 10 inch photos from Henry and sent this to Ron Scott.
The flintlock has a 42 3/8 inch barrel in .54 caliber made by Ed Rayl. The stock blank came from Freddie Harris. Jim Brooks made the bag, Robert Scheffler made the powder horn, Ed Long made the priming horn, and Ron Scott put everything together including the horn strap, knife, and sheath. Special thanks for Henry for taking the time to supply me with the photos.

Jim Brooks no longer makes bags, and the last I talked to Ed, he no longer makes horns

Great Scott! It's wonderful to see such precise and pristine work. Just lovely. Now you just need to get out there and put some "patina" on it!! You're a lucky guy. Thanks for sharing.   Ben

Thanks guys for the complement. I made a mistake on the barrel length. The total length 43 1/4 inches.  In case anyone is interested, here are the OD barrel measurement.

 I/8 from breech joint .958, 2" from breech joint .946,  4" - .936,  6" - .919,  8" - .905,  10" - .884,  12" - .868,  14" - .851,  16" - .834,  18" - .820,  20" - .807,  22" - .793,  24" - .791,  26" - .789,  28" - .786  30" - .776,  32" - .767,  34" - .762,  36" - .759,  38" - .766,  40" - .769,  42" - .774  and at the muzzle  .787.

The rifle is keen and feels hard, if I can describe the wood like that. I showed the rifle to a good friend of mine and he said, "Man, everytime I shoulder the rifle, I am looking down the sights! I have never done that with a rifle that I didn't do a little adjustment." ...or something like that.

Dr. Tim-Boone, I feel like putting on white gloves everytime I pick it up.  Isn't that sad.

Great gun, well executed. I like the carving, the color and the patch box screws.

Mike, I asked if Ron would let the screw slots stop where or when they got tight. I really do not like the patchbox slots to line up. On the color of everything, I let Ron decide that.

One think about the grain pattern in the butt stock area; I asked him to pick an irregular pattern. That matches my personality.

Very nice rifle mike. I think I would be scared to shoot it. I am sure it will be a family heirloom.
