Dave Rase on The Blog--again
« on: September 12, 2012, 05:29:28 PM »
Great piece today with lots of photos of Dave's work, with some interview conversation. I'm more and more convinced he's a National Treasure.

Great stuff, Dave!

iPratt didn't talk very much, which is very unusual.

Rase talked a lot, which is normal.

I really like this posting, it's informative. I learned more about Dave than I ever knew, even tho' I've known him for many years. It also is a good medium for exploring different makers on WHY and WHAT they do. I'd like to see more of this kind of thing.

Thank you Dave and Ian, and the Blog.

From my interactions with Dave, though we've not met, generous and willing to help others should be mentioned as well.

Well done and well deserved.  I know Pletch has been interviewing builders and putting the recordings online on his Blackpowder Mag. I hope Art will do more of these print article/interviews with more of our accomplished artists.

The article is the result of the hard work done by Ian and Maryellen Pratt. We hope that there will be additional articles from them in the future.

I would like to thank everyone who took the time to read the article and for all your kind words and encouragement.  It was very humbling when Ian called and explained this project to me and then asked if I would be willing to participate.  The amazing part of the whole progression was that after a 3 day train excursion, 2 days of teaching a hands-on class and another 2 days of presentations Ian was still able to put most of this together while at my shop.  It was a pleasure to watch Ian and Maryellen work together.  Ian would rifle through my shop, pick out an item and then the 2 of them would quickly decide how to best photograph it while jotting down a quick description of the piece.  Maryellen is unbelievably talented when she gets behind the lens of her camera.  As all of you have been witness too; not only does the Pratt’s art work complement each other, they also complement each other as a couple.  I look forward to seeing more of Ian and Maryellen’s collaborative works in the future, be it hand crafted rifles and accouterments or narratives of other artisan’s.  Thank you Ian and Maryellen.  And thank you Art and Jan.
