My latest build
« on: September 14, 2012, 08:53:10 PM »
This is the latest rifle I just finished. It is a 50 cal. C wt. barrel. Bivins hardware that has a full 2" but plate. It weighs right at 9 lbs on my bath digital scale. I know I am not in the same league with most here but I do enjoy building and hope to get better if I live long enough.

Looks good from here, Jim!

I'm also NYS, but way over on the eastern edge. Ten miles from Mass. My daughter goes to Geneseo.

Acer, I am right in the middle of the state, Cortland area. I have been to Saratoga to shoot but it was many years ago. I believe it was one of there national events.

Jim, there is the NMLRA Territorial, usually in July, a Spring shoot in June, and Fall shoot in Aug.

I won second place offhand 100 yd flint in the Spring shoot.

There were two shooters. in that match.  ;D

Acer, thats what it was, NMLRA Territorial match but it was back in the early to mid 90's. I would have to find the medals I got that day. I entered 5 or 6 matches, 3 being in the musket class and took 3 second places with the musket and 2 with my flint rifle. Can't remember just what place they were now. I only remember the musket matches because I was told before I went that they were very serious about there musket shooting there and not to expect much. I had just bought the Enfield musket about a month before we went there. Back then I was at a shoot just about every weekend. I also shoot with the New York Brigade Of Longrifle Men, that was the NYS flintlock team.

It's all a matter of perspective. The PA flint shooting team is pretty hot. Phil Koppos is one of them. We have Tony Capriglione in Saratoga.

Nice rifle!
Sounds like there is plenty to get involved in up here in central NY (I'm in Syracuse) once I finish my rifle.
(Acer,  Geneseo is the number one value ranked school in the US, I wasn't excited when my son turned it down.)

John, you are just up the road from me. I was just at the New York State shoot held in Elbridge,NY just west of you. Depending on just where you are in Syracuse you can't be much more than a half hour if that away from there. They have there fall shoot the first week in Oct. You should try to come. I will be there on Sat. for sure.

Acer, ya Pa and Kent. are about the best I have seen. They have a large group of shooters to choose from. Here in NY we don't have as many to choose from, but it was always fun and I got to meet some great people.

Jim; looks like ya haven't lost yer touch.
Ya had some nice ones back at the Salmon River Shoots a while back.
Too bad ya didn't make it in 45 caliber; so's I could " borrow and inspect " it for a couple of years. ;) ;)
Maybe see ya at Elbridge..

Quick follow up on this rifle. I had it at a fun shoot last week and fired it's first 5 shots. 100 yards first 2 shots and a 9 and an 8 with dead on elevation. 90 grains of 3f and an 18tho. patch. Last three were at a running target with a black center and white boarder in the heart area. 50 yards or so and the first shot was a center black, 2nd was in the white just to the left of the first and the last was just left of both just out of the white. The target was running right to left. only 60 grains of 3f. I think I am just going to shoot about 100 rounds before I even think of touching the sights and if it continues as it did I might just never touch them.  Oh ya, all shooting was off hand. :D :D :D
