Took me longer than expected but I promised to post pics of pressing a long piece of horn tip onto a mandrel.  This is based off of your comments on Eric Armstrong's post of making a box.  What follows  is a couple of simple pics but should give you the idea of it.  you will have to heat a couple of times if thick horn.  I as pressing this piece to make a syringe case for a diabetic and will post the finished pics of it later.  Remember, you will have to use hardwood to make the mandrel ans the small end will get thin and you want it to stay rigid.  feel free to ask any questions.  Oh..the lard is at approx 325 degrees.

 I always use the hammer and block method when mounting rough bands.
