New horn
« on: September 23, 2012, 02:34:48 AM »
This is a very simple horn that I made today. 12 inches around the outside curve, 2 inch butt. The base plug is maple and the applied tip is boxwood. The stopper is a piece of oak twig picked up by the shop. All color is aquafortis.

That's a well done, attractive simple horn.  Your day must not get interupted
as many times as mine does.   I hope to some day be able to take the time
to knock out a horn like that.  The plug and tip are have nice lines like Jim
says.

Nice job. I like the idea where you placed the front staple. Is that to keep the tip from maybe working loose ?
The plug is very cool IMO.

Yes. The staple is one of the pins for the tip. There is another in the bottom of the tip.

Yes, very neatly done Steve, especially the butt plug!!  The staples are the right size, placed well,  and the nicely turned tip are the details that make this a very pleasing looking horn.  Everything seemed to compliment each other, harmonious.

The nice thing about using AF is the color variations you get from one horn to another versus using RIT all the time.

I would say that with all the nice details and their well execution, this is above a 'simple' horn.   Attention to and excellent execution to them is what sets it apart Steve.
